Port of Marina di Carrara Dry Dock
The Italian Sea Group, formerly Nuovi Cantieri Apuania S.p.A., a historic shipyard in Marina di Carrara and current State Concessionaire for the port, is one of the largest international nautical conglomerates for the construction and refit of superyachts.
To ensure a supply adequate to demand and thus meet the ever-changing market needs for both new builds and refits, The Italian Sea Group has undertaken reorganization and rationalization of the concession spaces to significantly increase the usability and productivity of the dock.
The project therefore involved the construction of a new dry dock, approximately 144 m long and approximately 46 m wide, with a usable surface area of approximately 6,500 m2 and a depth of -7 m. Its dual objective is to allow the construction and outfitting of pleasure boats up to 120 m in length and, at the same time, to provide more space on land for refits.
The design solution, normally used for deep-water dry docks, included:
- lateral termination with a combined pile and sheet pile wall;
- the construction of the bottom plug using a reinforced concrete slab anchored by self-drilling micropiles;
- the construction of reinforced concrete walls rigidly connected to the bottom slab;
- the construction of the reinforced concrete crown beam.
The project also included the necessary plant and equipment for construction site activities.
