Port Of Trieste Adria Terminal Cruise
The idea of designing a cruise terminal, called ADRIA TERMINAL, within the old port of Trieste, arose from several particularly favorable characteristics, such as good highway connections, rail connections, and proximity to the historic center, making it an important destination for large cruise ship passenger traffic.
The study evaluated the possibility of a single berth in addition to the existing 400-meter quay. It was then considered extending the quay to accommodate two large-capacity ships simultaneously, by raising part of the breakwater. The extension of the quay also offered the opportunity to create a marina for pleasure boats and yachts.
The plan was to redevelop and utilize existing facilities: converting buildings into a maritime terminal, covering a total area of 160,000 m2, and creating parking areas for buses and vehicles, with excellent access to the main roads. Finally, using the existing track network, a platform at the central station was isolated to easily connect the maritime terminal to Venice and other major tourist destinations.
